Nicaragua Stands with Palestinian President Amidst Israel’s “Terrorist Aggression”

On the 14th of November, the government of Nicaragua pronounced its unwavering support for the President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, as well as the Palestinian people as a whole. This declaration comes in light of what the Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo perceive as a “terrorist aggression” by the State of Israel.

The Nicaraguan President and his wife also acknowledged the significance of the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of Palestine. Authored by the renowned Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish, it was first pronounced by Yasser Arafat on November 15, 1988, in Algiers. The move signified a brave and historic stand for the legitimate rights to freedom, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Palestine.

Ortega and Murillo further reiterated Nicaragua’s commitment to reinforcing the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation with Palestine. They emphasized the unwavering resolve to fortify these relationships “today more than ever.”

Mahmoud Abbas presides over the Palestinian territories occupied in the West Bank, yet, over the years, has seen the Gaza Strip slip from the control of the PNA. The Gaza Strip currently lies under the political, administrative, and security dominion of the Hamas group.

In a distressing development, it has been reported that approximately 200,000 Palestinians have been forced to flee northern Gaza over the past 10 days due to the intensifying clashes and instability in the region.
